The Ministry of the Usher

Though a seemingly small position, ushers play an invaluable role in ensuring church services run smoothly, guests are attended to, and the overall church experience is a net-positive.

So what exactly does an usher do?

Though not exhaustive, here are some of the practical ways that ushers serve during the Sunday morning service:

  1. Assisting in the collection of the tithes and offerings.

  2. Ensuring people feel welcome, seen, and cared for. Especially first time guests.

  3. Showing first time visitors around the church.

  4. Greeting people as they come into the sanctuary.

  5. Assisting families in finding seats, especially when it is crowded.

  6. Assisting anyone with special needs, as need arises.

  7. Assist the security team in monitoring the facility during service.

The heart of an Usher …

…is the heart of a servant. Ushers must love the people of the congregation, be willing to help at a moments notice, and desire to promote and atmosphere of reverence and worship to The Lord.
